Just west of London, Bracknell offers a welcome retreat from the hustle and bustle of the capital, making it a popular choice for short term lets. The picturesque woodland area is home to Windsor Castle, which is of course a main tourist attraction.
Originally, Bracknell was just a village, part of Windsor forest. Following the Second World War, it was declared a New Town under the New Towns Act, and was substantially developed in order to respond to the high demand for housing Britain was experiencing at the time. The town is surrounded by Swinley Forest, a large expanse of Crown Estate Woodland, and Crowthorne Woods.
Bracknell’s proximity to London, Ascot and Reading make it a popular tourist destination throughout the year. It is also a prime location for business travel, given that its urban centre houses a number of prominent technology companies.
The town’s proximity to London – Bracknell is 40km west of central London – means that there is a high level of demand for short term lets all year round. In addition, you can expect increased demand around the times of the events listed below, and the usual increase for summer tourism.
Given its proximity to London on the M4 corridor, Bracknell attracts those with professional commitments in the capital. However, the town also attracts corporate travel in its own right, as the headquarters of several technology companies and other large companies are located in its urban centre. In fact, Bracknell Forest is one of the best business locations in the UK; it has a strong economy, and boasts companies such as Hitachi, Honda, Fujitsu, Vodafone and Dell. Bracknell is also home to US drugs giant Eli Lily, who have an office at Arlington Square.
As well as attracting those who want to visit London, Bracknell also attracts tourists who want to explore its beautiful woodland areas. Its proximity to Reading makes it a sought after location for tourists during Reading Festival, and around the time of the Ascot Races, being only 8km from Ascot.
Bracknell is also within driving distance of several Areas of Outstanding National Beauty, including Chiltern Hills, Surrey Hills and North Wessex Downs.
The town has a range of leisure and sporting attractions, including the Coral Reef Water Park and the Look Out Discovery Centre.
Lexicon Shopping
The Lexicon, located just off the M3 and M4, is Bracknell’s main shopping centre. Alongside high street favourites for men’s and women’s fashion, the centre also boasts a huge culinary offering, with over 25 cafes and restaurants. Among these are Wagamama, Nando’s and Zizzi. Eagle Lane is lined with favourites like The Real Greek and Friday’s. For film fans, there’s also a 12 screen Cineworld.
Coral Reef Waterworld
One of England’s largest interactive water worlds, Coral Reef offers a huge range of water attractions. There’s waterslides, an erupting volcano, and a pirate shape, to name just a few. There is also an adults-only spa area, for those who want to relax.
Lily Hill Park
Lily Hill Park is a 23-hectare public open space, close to the town centre and Ascot, and with excellent transport links to London. There are 56 acres of historic parkland and gardens, perfect for experiencing nature.
Key features of Lily Hill Park are the Edwardian water garden, and an animal tracks trail, where families can find tracks belonging to some of the animals who visit the park.
The park is carefully managed to preserve the habitat of wildlife including birds like bullfinch and goldcrest, and bats from at least six species.
Look Out Discovery Centre
Easily accessible from the M3, Look Out Discovery Centre hosts a range of science-based activities and exhibitions aimed at children. With an aim to show children how exciting science can be, the Centre’s activities include a ‘make an electrical circuit’ and a magnetic wall. It’s also a perfect venue for a children’s birthday party.
Thorpe Park
Thorpe Park is one of the UK’s best theme parks. Home to the UK’s fastest rollercoaster, Stealth, which propels you from 0 to 80 miles per hour in under two seconds, as well as rides like Storm Surge, a spinning water ride with a 64ft spinning descent, Thorpe park is a must if you’re an adrenaline junkie!
Ascot
Ascot Racecourse is one of the most famous in the world, and hosts race days throughout the year. Just 8km from Bracknell, Ascot is likely to draw in tourists who are attending events at Ascot. Events are held at Ascot year round, such as weddings, summer parties, corporate meetings and conferences, and exhibitions.
Reading Festival
One of the most famous music festivals in the world, Reading Festival, takes place every summer. It is the world’s oldest pop music festival, originally known as the National Jazz Festival when it was first held in 1961. It was first held at Reading in 1971, and since then has welcomed a host of famous headliners. The festival draws in music fans every summer, so you can expect an increase in guests around the week it is held.
