History

Wolverhampton, formerly known as Wulfrun, is a city and metropolitan borough in the English West Midlands. The city had a population of around 250,000 people according to the 2011 census. Wolverhampton was founded in 985 and is historically a part of Staffordshire.

Wulfrun is derived from the Anglo-Saxon Wulfrnehantn, which means Wulfrun’s high or main enclosure or farm. Wulfrun was regarded as the city’s founder, and his name lives on in Wolverhampton today most notably through the Wulfrun Centre, a local shopping hotspot that we’ll look at in more detail later..

Wolverhampton was famous for its japanned ware and steel jewellery beginning in the 18th century, and the School of Practical Art was founded in the 1850s. This school became a close associate of the Art Gallery over time. During this time, the school had many famous students and teachers, including Robert Jackson Emerson, Sir Charles Wheeler, Sara Page, and many other sculptors and artists. Property management hosts might want to consider a property listing close to this famous site.

When do people visit Wolverhampton?

Peak tourist season in Wolverhampton – like the rest of the UK – runs from April to October, so hosts can expect increased demand during this part of the year. However, with Wolverhampton being such a vibrant place and with so many reasons to visit – not all of which are tourism, as you’ll see below – it is a popular destination year round.

Business Travel

Wolverhampton is home to many different businesses in various sectors, which will draw in those looking for short letting for business purposes rather than a holiday home. Property management hosts will want to think about offering serviced accommodation close to business centres, to maximise their rental income. On booking sites, SevenLiving offers a client money protection scheme, which will help your guests feel secure, and win you good guest reviews.

What’s more, with the ever-growing popularity in recent years of ‘hybrid working’ (a situation that sees someone work from home or another location that’s local to them but far from their employer’s headquarters, and only travelling in to that HQ when necessary), there’s even more of a domestic market for corporate travel involving Wolverhampton too. Wherever they may be coming from though, with the help of one of the top Airbnb management companies in London, you can make sure that your corporate guests are well looked after.

It should also be highlighted that corporate travel is good for hosts too. Because we provide Airbnb management Wolverhampton can rely on, we see all kinds of properties booked and lived in by all kinds of guests – and we can tell you that corporate guests are amongst the very best a host can get. They pay in advance, stay longer, stay / re-book more regularly and are generally tidier than other guests too.

Leisure & Tourism

Historical cities are known to attract people for either a tenancy or guest stay, particularly if these are in a central location or close to the city centre. As a host you can maximise your rental income by knowing how to optimise pricing and coordinating property maintenance cover. The best airbnb management companies, like SevenLiving, can help your listing get maximum exposure, whether it’s an apartment or primary residence that you’re advertising as a rental property.

Attractions in Wolverhampton

Arts & Culture

The Wolverhampton Art Gallery opened in 1884, followed by the Wolverhampton Grand Theatre ten years later. Both have since risen to become cornerstones of Wolverhampton’s arts and culture scene, and both are must-sees for culturally-minded guests visiting the area.

Warwick Castle

You may also visit nearby Warwick Castle and enjoy the Middle Ages in England by seeing performers and interactive presentations of England at the time. The Flight of the Eagles is also included in the castle, and you can upgrade your ticket to explore the dungeons of the majestic fortress. The ticket is valid for one day only. Hosting services suggest that property owners offer short term rentals close to these sites if they can, as they can attract more bookings.

Wolverhampton Racecourse

Throughout the year Wolverhampton Racecourse – the first floodlit racecourse in Britain – serves as one of the UK’s leading venues for racing, as well as other events such as concerts. This means that the venue holds year round appeal both for guests who are fans of the sport of kings, and those that aren’t. As such, events at the racecourse can be a great source of bookings for Wolverhampton’s hosts.

Shopping & Retail

Guests looking for a little retail therapy will love Wolverhampton – the town boasts not one but two major shopping malls (the Mander Centre & the Wulfrun Centre) each featuring a great selection of well-known nationwide stores and independent retailers. When it comes to shopping, there’s something in Wolverhampton for everyone – and that being the case the retail offering here is sure to draw guests to the area.
